There are special events throughout the year; from medieval Jousting, midsummer evenings with Shakespeare, a Medieval Mêlée at the height of the summer to a scary Hallowe'en and an evocative Victorian Christmas.

Events 2010

The Castle, its history, decoration and its people are the inspiration for this year's programme. Dramatic large scale re-enactments, hands-on craft activities, animation workshops, fascinating lectures by scintillating guest speakers,  together with special appearances by the Romans, medieval knights, William Burges and Queen Victoria herself will make 2010 a year to remember.     

Highlights include:

14-15 August Grand Medieval Mêlée
11 September Victorian Day
25 - 26 Sept Great British Cheese Festival

Important information for Cardiff Castle Pass Holders

Due to special events taking place in Cardiff Castle grounds, please note that your Cardiff Castle Pass will not be valid on the following dates:

  • Saturday 26 June: Armed Forces Day before 12noon
  • Sunday 27 June: Polo in the Castle
  • Saturday and Sunday 25 - 26 September: Great British Cheese Festival

Special discount for Pass Holders will be available for the Great British Cheese Festival on the day.

North Gate

Due to special events taking place in the Cardiff Castle grounds, please note that the North Gate entrance will be closed on the following days:

  • Saturday 26 June: Armed Forces Day
  • Sunday 27 June: Polo in the Castle
  • Thursday 1 July: The Tempest
  • Sunday 8 August: Picnic in the Castle 
  • Friday - Sunday 24 - 26 September: Great British Cheese Festival
